On October 13, 2017, Kathleen L. Quirk was elected to the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Vulcan Materials Company (the
“Company”). Ms. Quirk currently serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (“FCX”), and has over twenty-five years of experience in the FCX organization.
Ms. Quirk has been appointed to the Board’s Audit Committee and its Finance Committee. She will receive the directors fees and
stock-based compensation for directors previously disclosed in the Company’s proxy statement for its 2017 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. She will stand for re-election at the Company’s 2018 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. There
are no arrangements or understandings between Ms. Quirk and any other persons pursuant to which she was selected as a director. Ms. Quirk does not have a direct or indirect material interest in any transaction required to be disclosed pursuant
to Item 404(a) of Regulation S-K.

hereto as Exhibit 99.1, and is incorporated herein by reference.
