FreeSeas Inc. Announces New Employment for Free Destiny

PIRAEUS, Greece, Dec. 17, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- FreeSeas Inc. (Nasdaq:FREE) (Nasdaq:FREEW) (Nasdaq:FREEZ) ("FreeSeas" or "the Company"), a provider of seaborne transportation for drybulk cargoes, announced today that the Free Destiny, a 1982-built, 25,240 dwt Handysize vessel, has completed its charter at $28,000 per day and has been delivered to its new charterers for a 10-day spot voyage at $32,500 per day for repositioning purposes. Upon completion of this trip, the vessel has already been fixed for a subsequent 35-day time-charter at $35,000 per day.

Mr. Ion Varouxakis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of FreeSeas, stated, "These new charters illustrate the strength of the shipping market and our ability to employ our vessels at attractive rates. We are well on track to execute our strategy to expand our fleet and to pay a dividend beginning in February 2008, as previously announced."
