On September 2, 2009, CorpBanca sent to the Chilean Superintendency of Securities and Insurance (Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros or the SVS) a notice disclosing as a material event formation of SMU Corp S.A., in which Corpbanca holds a 51% interest and SMU S.A. the remaining 49%. The sole purpose of SMU Corp S.A. will be to issue, operate and manage credit cards to be used by customers of Unimarc Supermarkets (Supermercados Unimarc) in such supermarkets. An unofficial English language translation of the notice is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
