(b)   On March 14, 2013, H. Carroll Mackin, a member of the Board of Directors (the "Board") of Assurant, Inc. (the "Company") since 1996, notified the Chair of the Board that he will not stand for reelection when his current term expires as of the Company's annual meeting on May 9, 2013.

A copy of the Company's March 18, 2013 news release announcing Mr. Mackin's upcoming departure is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated herein by reference.

Assurant Announces Board Change

NEW YORK, March 18, 2013 -- Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), a premier provider of specialty insurance and insurance-related products and services, announces that long-serving director H. Carroll Mackin, 72, will not stand for re-election to its Board of Directors at the company's annual meeting on May 9, 2013.
