Item 8.01.

Other Events.

On February 23, 2016, the rights issued under the Rights Agreement, dated as of February 23, 2006, between Whiting Petroleum Corporation (the “Company”) and Computershare Trust Company, Inc., Rights Agent (the “Rights Agreement”), expired pursuant to the terms of the Rights Agreement and the Rights Agreement terminated. The Board of Directors of the Company had previously determined to not renew the Rights Agreement.
