NEW YORK & COMPANY, INC. REPORTS DECEMBER SALES RESULTS
Total Sales Increase 8.8%
Comparable Store Sales Increase 3.2%

New York, New York — January 4, 2007 — New York & Company, Inc. [NYSE:NWY], a specialty apparel chain with 570 stores, announced today that total net sales for the five-week period ended December 30, 2006 increased 8.8% to $192.8 million, as compared to $177.1 million in the prior year period. Comparable store sales increased 3.2% for the five-week period, as compared to a comparable store sales increase of 10.9% in the prior year period.

Total net sales for the forty-eight week year-to-date period ended December 30, 2006 increased 3.9% to $1,109.5 million, as compared to $1,067.3 million in the prior year period. Comparable store sales decreased 2.9% for the forty-eight week period, as compared to an increase of 3.3% in the prior year period.

Richard P. Crystal, Chairman and CEO stated: “We were pleased with our December sales results, as our well-executed holiday promotional programs drove increased transactions in our stores.  During the month, we experienced sales strength in our sweater, activewear, pant, handbag and belt businesses, which more than offset weakness in certain cold weather products.  We believe we are well positioned as we begin the final month of the year.”

The Company opened two new stores in December, ending the month with 570 stores and 3.4 million selling square feet in operation.
