PLATINUM UNDERWRITERS HOLDINGS, LTD. ANNOUNCES INITIAL ESTIMATE OF LOSSES FROM WINDSTORM KYRILL

HAMILTON, BERMUDA, February 5, 2007 — Platinum Underwriters Holdings, Ltd. (NYSE: PTP) announced today its initial estimate of losses from Windstorm Kyrill to be in the range of $10 — $20 million. Windstorm Kyrill caused widespread damage across several countries in Europe in mid-January, 2007. This estimate is net of reinstatement premiums and retrocessional recoveries.

Forecasts of losses from Windstorm Kyrill are subject to considerable uncertainty. The Company’s initial loss estimate is based on portfolio modeling, a review of individual contracts and preliminary indications from clients and brokers and therefore the impact on the Company’s results arising from Windstorm Kyrill may differ materially from the current loss estimate.
