Related Party Transactions
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (“Samsung”) In connection with the Company's acquisition of the Samsung HDD business, Samsung became a shareholder of the Company and appointed one of its executives to the Company's Board of Directors. On October 22, 2013, Samsung filed an amendment to its Schedule 13D indicating that it holds less than 5% of the Company's outstanding shares. Dr. Seh-Woong Jeong was appointed to our Board of Directors by Samsung and joined our Board of Directors on April 26, 2012.  He retired from our Board of Directors on October 22, 2014. The Company recorded revenue of $216 million and $413 million from sales to Samsung for fiscal year 2014 and 2013, respectively. The Company made payments to Samsung in fiscal years 2014 and 2013 of $318 million and $393 million, respectively, related to purchases of components and services. The Company had accounts payable to Samsung of $34 million and $48 million at June 27, 2014 and June 28, 2013. The Company had accounts receivable from Samsung of $25 million and $49 million at June 27, 2014 and June 28, 2013.
Microsoft Corporation (“Microsoft”) During the years presented (through March 2014), the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer also served on the board of Microsoft. The Company recorded revenue of $208 million and $141 million from sales to Microsoft for fiscal years 2014 and 2013, respectively. The Company made payments to Microsoft in fiscal years 2014 and 2013 of $1 million and $2 million, respectively, related to purchases of licensed software. The Company had accounts receivable from Microsoft of $35 million and $33 million at June 27, 2014 and June 28, 2013.
