Everest Re Group, Ltd. Raises $280 Million in Common Equity

HAMILTON, Bermuda – December 1, 2005-- Everest Re Group, Ltd. (NYSE:RE) announced today that it has agreed to sell approximately $280 million of its common shares to Wachovia Securities, which will subsequently offer the common shares to public investors pursuant to an automatically effective Form S-3 shelf registration statement filed by Everest earlier today.

Everest expects to use the proceeds from the sale of its common shares for working capital and general corporate purposes. The Company noted that this additional capital further enhances its existing financial strength as well as its strategic positioning.

This press release shall not constitute an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy, nor shall there be any sale of the common shares in any jurisdiction in which such an offer, solicitation or sale would be unlawful prior to the registration or qualification under the securities laws of any such jurisdiction.
