M&F BANCORP, INC. DECLARES DIVIDEND FOR 3rd QUARTER

Durham, NC — (October 2, 2008) — M&F Bancorp, Inc. today announced that its Board of Directors approved a five-cent ($0.05) per share quarterly dividend. Each shareholder of record as of the close of business on October 2, 2008 is entitled to receive $0.05 for each share of common stock held at the close of business on this date. The payment date is Thursday, October 9, 2008.

M&F Bancorp, Inc., a bank holding company with assets of approximately $ 272.6 million as of June 30, 2008, is the parent company of Mechanics and Farmers Bank.
