Opponents of Charter's looming $78.7 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks have spent the week attacking the company's modem rental policies (or lack thereof). The complaints appear to originate with a modem manufacturer named Zoom, which managed to get the Los Angeles Times in a tizzy over the fact that Charter includes the cost of modem rental in their above-the-line price.

We've noted that while many companies have been jacking up their modem rental fees (to as high as $10 per month) Charter formally rolled their modem rental fee into their overall price back in 2012.
