$500,000,000 7.35% Perpetual Subordinated Reset Capital Securities

Abbey National plc hereby confirms that it has given notice in accordance with the terms of its $500,000,000 7.35% Perpetual Subordinated Reset Capital Securities that on October 16, 2006 it will redeem all of its outstanding $500,000,000 7.35% Perpetual Subordinated Reset Capital Securities at a redemption price equal to 100% of the principal amount thereof, together with accrued interest thereon to, but excluding, October 15, 2006.
