Item 1.04 Mine Safety - Reporting of Shutdowns and Patterns of Violations.

On July 29, 2012, Consolidation Coal Company, a subsidiary of CONSOL Energy Inc. (the “Company”) and the operator of the Company’s Robinson Run Mine located in Mannington, West Virginia, received an imminent danger order (the “Order”) from the Mine Safety and Health Administration with respect to the Robinson Run Mine under Section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977. The Order described an ignition that occurred during cutting operations related to maintenance on the longwall. No injuries resulted from the condition described in the Order and the Order was subsequently abated.
