(Nasdaq: PTIE), a biopharmaceutical company, today reported financial results for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2005. The net loss for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 was $8.8 million, or $0.20 per share, compared to a net loss of $9.2 million, or $0.26 per share in the third quarter of 2004. The net loss for the nine months ended September 30, 2005 was $27.5 million, or $0.63 per share, compared to a net loss of $28.5 million, or $0.80 per share for the nine months ended September 30, 2004. Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities totaled $71.5 million at September 30, 2005. Research and development expenses for the third quarter of 2005 decreased to $8.1 million from $8.5 million for the same three-month period in 2004. Research and development expenses for the nine months ended September 30, 2005 decreased to $25.8 million from $26.2 million for the same nine-month period in 2004. The decrease in research and development expenses was primarily related to the completion of the Phase III studies with Oxytrex(TM), Remoxy(TM) and PTI-901.
