Waste Services, Inc. issued a press release on May 23, 2006 announcing that it will propose, for approval at its annual shareholders meeting scheduled for June 26, 2006, a reverse stock split of one share of its common stock for each three shares of its common stock presently outstanding. A preliminary proxy statement for this meeting has been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. A copy of the release is furnished as Exhibit 99.1
