Item 5.02.   Departure of Directors or Principal Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Principal Officers

Westmoreland Coal Company (“Westmoreland” or “Company”) reported that Kevin A. Paprzycki has joined the Company as Controller and principal accounting officer effective June 5, 2006. He is both a certified public accountant and a certified management accountant.

Prior to joining Westmoreland, Mr. Paprzycki was most recently Corporate Controller for Applied Films Inc. (from December 2005 to May 2006) and prior to that held various positions at Evans & Sutherland Computer Co. (from July 1999 to December 2005), lastly as Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary.
