Announces Fourth Quarter 2004 Dividend of $0.22

     MFA Mortgage Investments, Inc. (NYSE:MFA) announced today that its Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $0.22 per share of common stock for the fourth quarter of 2004. The dividend will be paid on January 31, 2005 to stockholders of record on December 27, 2004.

     Stewart Zimmerman, MFA’s Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President said, “Fourth quarter 2004 earnings per share should generally be in line with earnings from the previous two quarters with an expected range of $0.21 to $0.23. Recent and anticipated increases in the fed funds rate are expected to increase the cost of MFA’s liabilities at a more rapid pace than the yield on its assets, leading to a narrowing of spreads in 2005. We believe that spreads should rebound after this period of anticipated fed funds rate increases ends.”

     MFA seeks to generate income from investments in high-quality ARM-MBS and other assets. At September 30, 2004, MFA had total assets of approximately $6.2 billion.
