During the Predecessor period of January 1, 2017 through August 31, 2017, FelCor recognized severance charges of approximately $34.5 million (including $8.4 million of equity-based charges) related to the Mergers with RLJ. The severance charges are included in transaction costs in the consolidated statements of operations and comprehensive income (loss). During the Predecessor years ended December 31, 2016 and 2015, FelCor recognized severance charges of approximately $6.9 million (including $2.9 million of equity-based charges) and $3.7 million (including $1.4 million of equity-based charges), respectively. The severance charges are included in other expenses in the consolidated statements of operations and comprehensive income (loss) and primarily relate to FelCor's former Chief Executive Officer in 2016 and certain other executive officers in 2015.
