NOTE 6. ASSETS HELD FOR SALE OR CONTRIBUTION

We had investments in certain real estate properties that met the criteria to be classified as held for sale or contribution at December 31, 2020 and 2019. At the time of classification, these properties were expected to be sold to third parties or were recently stabilized and expected to be contributed to unconsolidated co-investment ventures within twelve months. The amounts included in Assets Held for Sale or Contribution represented real estate investment balances and the related assets and liabilities for each property.

Assets held for sale or contribution, including certain properties acquired through the Liberty Transaction and the IPT Transaction, consisted of the following at December 31 (dollars and square feet in thousands):
