Smith, President of the Company, stated that the Board of Directors determined that the payment of a dividend was appropriate in light of the Company's financial condition and results of operations. He noted that future earnings and payment of dividends are subject to certain risks and uncertainties including changes in economic conditions in the Company's market area, changes in policies by regulatory agencies, fluctuations in interest rates, demand for loans in the Company's market area, and competition. For the quarter ending March 31, 2003, the Company had net income of $489,000 or $0.54 per diluted share as compared to $362,000 or $0.41 per diluted share for the quarter ending March 31, 2002. This compares to $1.2 million or $1.37 per diluted share for the nine months ending March 31, 2002. The increase in net income for the quarter and nine months ending March 31, 2003 resulted primarily from increased net interest income and non-interest income which offset increased loan loss provisions and non-interest expenses. Total assets increased $6.5 million from $176.6 million at June 30, 2002 to $183.1 million at March 31, 2003. The increase in assets was primarily due to loan growth.
