System sales include the results of all restaurants regardless of ownership, including Company-owned and franchise restaurants. Sales of franchise restaurants typically generate ongoing franchise and license fees for the Company at a rate of 3% to 6% of sales. (e) | Effective January 1, 2019, we adopted the new lease accounting standard. As a result, we are now required to recognize right-of-use assets and lease liabilities upon lease commencement for operating leases based on the present value of lease payments over the lease term.
