NOVASTAR REVISES FIRST QUARTER 2005 EARNINGS

RELEASE AND CONFERENCE CALL SCHEDULE

KANSAS CITY, MO., April 12, 2004 – NovaStar Financial, Inc. (NYSE: NFI), a residential mortgage lender and portfolio investor, will report financial results for the first quarter of 2005 at approximately 7:00 a.m. Central Time (8:00 a.m. Eastern time) on May 2, 2005. A conference call to discuss first quarter results will take place the same day, at 10:00 a.m. Central Time (11:00 a.m. Eastern Time).
