NOVASTAR ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER 2005 EARNINGS

RELEASE, FORM 10-Q FILING AND EARNINGS CONFERENCE CALL

KANSAS CITY, MO., October 10, 2005 – NovaStar Financial, Inc. (NYSE: NFI), a residential mortgage lender and portfolio investor, will report third quarter 2005 financial results and file it’s Form 10-Q at approximately 3:00 p.m. Central Time (4:00 p.m. Eastern Time) on November 7, 2005.
