DRD EXTENDS FINAL UNCONDITIONAL EMPEROR OFFER TO 30 JULY

14 July 2004

Johannesburg, South Africa. 14 July, 2004. Durban Roodepoort Deep, Limited, (JSE: DUR; NASDAQ: DROOY; ASX: DRD), today extended its offer to acquire all the shares in Emperor Mines Limited (Emperor). The offer now closes on 30 July 2004, unless extended.

Under the offer, DRD is presently entitled to approximately 44% of the shares in Emperor.

DRD last week removed all conditions from its offer to acquire all the shares in Emperor. Shareholders who accept the offer will receive their DRD shares within seven days.

Last month DRD increased and made final its offer to Emperor shareholders of 5 DRD shares for every 22 Emperor shares held.

DRD Chief Executive Officer, Ian Murray, said “The extension was necessary to allow Emperor shareholders the benefit of appreciating the recently announced unconditional structure of the offer.”

A majority of the independent directors of Emperor’s board have recommended that shareholders accept DRD’s offer.
