Efficiency Ratios UVSP pays a Bank Share Tax rather than Bank Income Tax to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a result of our type of charter. Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL)  On January 1, 2020, the Corporation adopted Accounting Standard Update No. 2016-13, “Financial Instruments – Credit Losses (Topic 326): Measurement of Credit Losses on Financial Instruments” (“CECL”). Upon adoption, the Corporation recognized:  $12.9 million increase in the allowance for loans and leases credit losses. Resulted in a 1.10% coverage ratio.  $1.1 million increase in the reserve for unfunded commitments  $300 thousand increase in the allowance for investment credit losses  This resulted in an after-tax retained earnings adjustment of $11.3 million  During 2020, the provision for credit losses was $40.8 million, of which $39.4 million related to loans and leases, $786 thousand related to unfunded commitments and $569 thousand related to investment securities.  $27.4 million of the 2020 provision was attributable to changes in forward-looking economic assumptions  At 12/31/20, the allowance for loan and lease credit losses as a percentage of loans and leases held for investment (excluding PPP loans) was 1.72% compared to 0.81% at 12/31/19  During the three months ended March 31, 2021, the reserve release was $11.3 million, of which $11.3 million related to loans and leases and $384 thousand related to investment securities which were offset by $377 thousand provision expense related to unfunded commitments  $12.9 million of the year-to-date provision release was attributable to changes in forward-looking economic assumptions  At 3/31/21, the allowance for loan and lease credit losses as a percentage of loans and leases held for investment (excluding PPP loans) was 1.46% 28
