Lease Abandonment

13. LEASE ABANDONMENT:

In December 2011, the Company abandoned certain excess office space within its corporate headquarters in Wakefield, Massachusetts. As a result of the abandonment of such space, the Company incurred a non-cash operating charge of $2.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2011 and recorded a lease abandonment accrual (the short- and long-term portions of which are recorded within accrued expenses and other long-term liabilities within the consolidated balance sheets). The lease abandonment charge was calculated based on the net of future contractually obligated lease payments and an estimate of potential sub-lease income (which took into account current market rates and occupancy levels). The lease abandonment accrual was $1.2 million and $1.8 million as of December 31, 2013 and 2012, respectively. The underlying assumptions used in assessment of this obligation, with the exception of passage of time, were unchanged as of December 31, 2013 as compared to 2012.This analysis is reviewed and updated each reporting period.
