NRG Energy, Inc. Urges Stockholders to Take No Action on Revised Unsolicited Proposal from
Exelon Corporation

PRINCETON, NJ; July 2, 2009—NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) has not received a revised proposal from Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC) but is aware, through Exelon’s news release and SEC filings, that Exelon has made a revised offer to acquire all of the outstanding shares of NRG Energy at a fixed exchange ratio of 0.545 Exelon shares for each NRG common share. NRG stockholders are advised to take no action at this time pending the review by NRG’s Board of Directors.

NRG’s Board of Directors will carefully review Exelon’s revised proposal with its advisors and determine the appropriate response promptly.
