Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG) The Conventional Outflow Pathway is an important focal point in treating POAG. POAG is similar to a clog in a kitchen sink: The eye’s natural drainage system is called the conventional outflow pathway. Blockage of this system prevents aqueous fluid from draining. When aqueous fluid cannot drain, intraocular pressure (IOP) rises. Elevated IOP can lead to optic nerve damage and may result in irreversible blindness.
