From: Ms_Mattice@webtv.net Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2003 12:15 PM To: rule-comments@sec.gov Subject: short selling comments (s7-23-03) when i first started "investing" in the stock market several years ago, i was very shocked and upset when i learned about short-selling. not just because it is used to take a companys share price and make it go down significantly; but, because the SEC permits this type of trading. short-selling should be stopped asap. it is not investing in the stock market, it is a destructive tool used by those who laugh at real investors. this is evident when you read the stock message boards at yahoo and raging bull. short selling causes more problems on these boards than anything else. the best example that i have seen this year is what short-sellers did to EELN. and they "strutted" their victory on the message boards to ad-nauseum !! imho IS NOT THE STOCK MARKET THERE FOR INVESTORS TO INVEST IN A COMPANY IN HOPES THAT THE COMPANY WILL SUCCEED ?? now, when i see the markets go up alot over several days, it is evident in this age we live in that the markets will drop a big amount a few days later. not just profit taking, but major short-sellers driving prices down. you want to see stability in the stock market ? you want to stop the huge flucations we see each week in the DOW and NASDAQ closing prices ?? you want to bring civility, integrity and honesty to our stock markets ? THEN, MAKE SHORT SELLING ILLEGAL !! make the american stock markets a place where investors can invest with confidence that negative techniques such as short-selling dont exist anymore. let a stock go up or down by the performance of the company. isnt that the way it really is suppose to be ?? thank you for your time
