Without rules which dictate transparency in financial statements and other financial objects, various organizations are able to withhold crucial information from retail investors and government or private regulators. Swaps are arbitrary in nature and can be used to hide short positions in publicly traded equities which prevents retail investors from having all available information to make an informed trade decision.
