Explanation of Responses:

1. Mr. Shoen disclaims beneficial ownership of the 232,500 shares involved in the transaction, which are held in trust for the benefit of his minor children. This report shall not be deemed an admission by Mr. Shoen that he beneficially owns such shares of AMERCO Common Stock.

2. The beneficial owners of 232,500 shares of Series A Common Stock exchanged such shares for 232,500 shares of Common Stock. The transaction involved a direct exchange of the shares with AMERCO.

3. Mr. Shoen indirectly beneficially owns (i) 1,946,314 shares of Common Stock through JPS Partners, Ltd., and (ii) 3,915 shares of Common Stock through the ESOP Trust Fund for the AMERCO Employee Savings and Employee Stock Ownership Trust. Mr. Shoen controls JPS Partners, Ltd. for purposes of Rule 16a-1(a)(1) and is therefore deemed to indirectly beneficially own such shares of Common Stock held by JPS Parters, Ltd.
